BAWSCA’s Landscape Class Series

This year BAWSCA offered landscape education classes in the Spring time, beginning February 28th through May 28th. A total of 17 classes were held around the service area of the BAWSCA member agencies. These classes were designed to introduce homeowners to the concepts of sustainable landscape design, focusing on creating a beautiful water-efficient garden by using California native plants. Of the 17 classes, ten were directly sponsored by BAWSCA and the remaining seven were sponsored the City of Millbrae and Redwood City.

The ten classes specifically sponsored by BAWSCA were held in February through May 2008 in Palo Alto, Burlingame, Hillsborough, Los Altso Hills, Daly City, Mountain View, Menlo Park, Fremont, and Hayward. Total attendance of the ten BAWSCA classes was approximately 300 people.

Bay Friendly Landscaping
The Alameda County Waste Management Authority and the Alameda County Source Reduction and Recycling Board operate as one public agency under the name of Stopwaste.org. This agency has developed set of water-wise landscaping guidelines for the Bay Area called “Bay-Friendly Gardening”. You can view and download the Bay-Friendly Gardening guide here.

BAWSCA has worked with Stopwaste.org to offer copies of their excellent publication "A Bay-Friendly Landscaping Guide to Mulch". The customized version of this guide lists information about the BAWSA member agencies on the back cover. Click here to download your copy. For a hard copy, please call 650-349-3000 or email us.

In the near future, BAWSCA will work with Stopwaste.org to customize the Bay-Friendly Gardening guide with a back cover for BAWSCA member agencies.
